Kevin Feige on Spider-Man being in the MCU: “that’s where he belongs”

October 1, 2015 by admin

Comic book fans rejoiced earlier this year when it was announced that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures had come to an agreement to allow the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man to join the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will kick off when he appears in Captain America: Civil War. And clearly it wasn’t just comic book fans that were happy, as Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige was pretty pleased too.

“Making that deal with Amy [Pascal] and Michael Lynton and Tom Rothman at Sony was just great,” Feige told guests at an Avengers: Age of Ultron home entertainment release party. “It was really amazing. On a personal level, making these movies, it means a lot because I think that we can do great things with Spider-Man. I think Spider-Man can serve a great purpose in our universe and that’s where he belongs. That’s what’s unique about him in the comics. It’s not that he’s only super hero in the world. It’s that he’s a totally different kind of super hero than can compare against all the other ones in the Marvel Universe.”

Feige was also asked about Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin from Daredevil making an appearance in a Spider-Man movie, but he noted that no discussions about that had taken place.
