Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes adds Dichen Lachman as new synopsis teases warring ape clans

February 9, 2023 by Ricky Church

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has grown by one as Severance’s Dichen Lachman joins the cast, per The Hollywood Reporter. In addition, THR has revealed the film’s new synopsis which teases warring ape clans as their dominion over Earth grows.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes continues from the rebooted series that began with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Lachman’s character is unknown as with many of the cast, but thanks to the new synopsis we have a clearer idea of what the film will be about as it picks up several years after Caesar saved his clan of apes at the end of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. The synopsis reads:

Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence. Some ape groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires.

In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to the latter’s quest, although she has plans of her own.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy) from a script by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Production has begun in Australia.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague (It), Freya Allan (The Witcher), Peter Macon (The Orville), Kevin Durand (Locke & Key), Travis Jeffery (Unbroken, Neil Sandilands (Sweet Tooth), William H. Macy (Shameless), Sara Wiseman (One Of Us Is Lying), Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi (The Clearing), Lydia Peckham (Cowboy Bebop) and Dichen Lachman (Severance).

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released on May 24th, 2024.
