Krypton casts Paula Malcomson and Blake Ritson in pivotal roles

November 3, 2017 by Ricky Church

Some more casting announcements have been made for SyFy’s upcoming Superman prequel series, Krypton. According to Deadline, the show has cast Ray Donovan’s Paula Malcomson in a pivotal guest-starring role and Da Vinci’s Demons‘ Blake Ritson as a series villainous regular.

Malcomson will portray Charys-El, the matriarch of the House of El and mother to Cameron Cuffe’s Seg-El, who is Superman’s grandfather. This makes Malcomson the Man of Steel’s great-grandmother. After the House of El is shamed and ostracized by the rest of Krypton, she “helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt.”

Meanwhile, Ritson will portray a familiar antagonist to Superman fans. He was been cast as the intelligent and evil Brainiac, a “parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence” who travels across the universe collecting cities to add to his ship and leaving a planet destroyed in his wake. In some Superman continuities and comics, notably Superman: The Animated Series and Smallville, Brainiac was created by Krypton, but allowed the planet die, or in some cases destroyed it himself.

Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will follow Superman’s grandfather–whose House of El was ostracized and shamed–as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Krypton features a cast that includes Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney as Val-El, Elliot Cowan as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa Vex, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em, and Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange.
