Lady Gaga in talks to join Joker 2 as Harley Quinn… in a possible musical sequel!?

June 14, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Joaquin Phoenix is about to enter a bad romance and play a love game in his Joker sequel. Yes, Lady Gaga has entered early talks to star in Joker 2, and her role could be a major one.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, following months of rumors, that the singer/actress is in the early stages of joining Todd Phillips’ Joker 2. Tentatively titled Joker: Folie à deux, the sequel could see Lady Gaga join as this film’s version of Harley Quinn. Yes, Margot Robbie will have a multiverse counterpart in the form of one of the biggest pop stars ever.

Lady Gaga is coming off her awards campaign for House of Gucci, which followed her more-successful fun in 2019 with A Star Is Born. In recent years, Gaga has split her time between film and music; her latest album Chromatica was another smash hit, and she’s coming off a hit song for Top Gun: Maverick titled Hold My Hand. Her passionate fanbase and ability to throw herself into a role makes her a perfect candidate to add a new flair to Joker 2.

Speaking of a new flair, THR also notes that the sequel is a musical. Yes, Joker: Folie à deux could feature musical numbers. While it sounds absurd, the mental breakdowns and delusions that Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck could lead to some strange and surreal sequences. Could we look at a scene with the Joker singing to Harley ala A Clockwork Orange? Only time will tell, but the Joker sequel is shaping to be a bizarre must-see experience.
