M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te pulled from release and will be shopped around

December 17, 2025 by Ricky Church

Bad news for fans of Blumehouse’s M3GAN films and its potential expanding franchise as Universal has pulled the spin-off Soulm8te from its January 9th, 2026 release date and its overall calendar, putting into question when – if all  it may be released.

Soulm8te was to blend the sci-fi and horror genre together like M3GAN and its sequel M3GAN 2.0 did, but while the original 2o22 film became a major hit for Universal and Blumhouse the sequel underperformed both critically and financially when it was released this summer. With that and Paramount’s horror Primate from Walter Hamada also scheduled for January 9th, Universal made the decision to pull Soulm8te entirely.

Despite that, Universal will shop Soulm8te around to other potential buyers and streaming services so it may yet be released in some format soon enough. We’ll have to wait and see for further updates though on both this film and any others Blumehouse may have been planning.

Soulm8te is directed by Kate Dolan from a script she and Rafael Jordan wrote. It follows a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

Soulm8te stars Claudia Doumit, Lily Sullivan, Isabelle Bonfrer, Emma Ramos and Sydney Blackburn.
