We all knew it was going to be huge, but perhaps not this huge, as Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has shattered the record for the biggest opening weekend in history with a global haul of $630 million.
Domestically, Infinity War has grossed $257 million, itself a record, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $248 million haul from 2015.
Add to this a staggering $382 million internationally and Avengers: Infinity War has comfortably topped the previous global record set by The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million).
The eighth Fast & Furious does however still hold the record for biggest international opening on $444.2 million, although that figure included takings from China and Russia, two markets where Infinity War is yet to open.
Amazingly, Infinity War is now just $18 million shy of Justice League’s total box office run of $658 million, a figure it may well pass on Monday, if not Tuesday at the latest.
It has also overtaken the entire worldwide grosses of The Incredible Hulk ($263.4 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million), Thor ($449.3 million), Ant-Man ($519.3 million), Iron Man ($585.2 million) and Iron Man 2 ($623.9 million) as well as taking the MCU’s total gross to $15.5 billion.
