Marvel’s Thunderbolts release date moves up

February 15, 2024 by Ricky Church

The date changes for Marvel Studios’ upcoming MCU films seem never-ending as Thunderbolts has shifted yet again on the release calendar, though this time it has moved up by a couple months. Previously set for July 25th, 2025, it will now be released on May 2nd, 2025.

The date change is due to yesterday’s surprise announcement of The Fantastic Four which will star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn. That film has been given the July 25th date, necessitating Thunderbolts‘ move so the two Marvel movies do not compete on the same weekend.

Thunderbolts will star MCU veterans Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, with Harrison Ford taking over the late William Hurt’s role as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

Also starring in the film are Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) as The Sentry and Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers) in an undisclosed role.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) and written by Eric Pearson (Black Widow), little is known about the plot of Thunderbolts aside from the fact it will follow a group of villains-turned-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government.

Thunderbolts is set for release on May 2nd 2025.
