Michael Fassbender says Assassin’s Creed is “very ambiguous morally”, new image released

November 27, 2016 by Gary Collinson

We’re less than a month away from the release of Assassin’s Creed, and thanks to Empire we have a new image of Michael Fassbender’s Aguilar, while the producer and star has been chatting about the movie, and how it is “very ambiguous morally”, as opposed to something like Star Wars.

“It’s not like Star Wars, where you’ve got the light side and the dark side,” states Fassbender. “This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties – the Templars and the Assassins – are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters. I think it’s a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, ‘Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?’ That’s always fun.”

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed is set for release on December 21st in the States and on January 1st in the UK. The film reunites Fassbender with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard, while the cast also includes Michael K. Williams (Ghostbusters), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Brendan Gleeson (Calvary) and Ariane Labed (The Lobster).
