UPDATE: Michael Rooker denies The Suicide Squad casting report, Benicio Del Toro rumoured for villain

May 16, 2019 by Gary Collinson

UPDATE: Michael Rooker has taken to Instagram to deny The Wrap’s report about his casting in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. You can see Rooker’s post below, followed by our original story…

It looks like Michael Rooker is set to be the first Guardians of the Galaxy star to join James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe reboot The Suicide Squad, with The Wrap reporting that Rooker is in talks to portray the character of King Shark.

Rooker’s casting should come as little surprise, given that he’s a good friend of Gunn’s and has worked on all of his directorial efforts (along with several films he’s produced).

If and when the deal closes, Rooker will join a cast that includes the returning Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) along with Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher, David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man, and Idris Elba (Thor: The Dark World) and John Cena (Bumblebee) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Meanwhile, an unconfirmed rumour claims that Gunn may have found his villain for the movie, with GeeksWorldWide claiming that his Guardians star Benicio Del Toro is in talks to portray a character described as an “irascible old warrior who lives for war.”
