Michelle Monaghan joins Mark Wahlberg in Boston Marathon bombing film Patriot’s Day

March 30, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

True Detective star Michelle Monaghan has signed on to the cast of upcoming Boston Marathon bombing film Patriot’s Day, Entertainment Weekly has revealed.

Monaghan joins the ever-expanding cast of the film, which sees Mark Wahlberg (Ted 2) in the lead as Sgt. Tommy Sanders as he teams up for a third time with director Peter Berg (Deepwater Horizon, Lone Survivor). Monaghan will play Wahlberg’s wife Carol, while 10 Cloverfield Lane’s John Goodman and  J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) will also feature.

Written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), the film “will follow the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, including the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it.”

On Monaghan’s casting, director Berg said: “In the aftermath of the attack heroes appeared from every corner of Boston… Michelle is a remarkable actress who knows the people of this city and understands their courage and strength.”

Patriot’s Day is set for release on December 21st.
