Mike Colter to jump on board Plane sequel Ship

February 13, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Lessons clearly haven’t been learned when it comes to the news that Mike Colter is set to reprise his role in a sequel to Gerard Butler actioner Plane by starring in the equally imaginatively titled Ship. Remember the last time an action sequel transferred its vehicle of choice from a propulsive piece of machinery to a boat? Jason Patrick and Sandra Bullock most certainly do.

The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Luke Cage‘s Colter will star in the sequel to the original Lionsgate thriller, which has so-far grossed $43 million at the worldwide box-office, and that Ship will be set on a cargo…erm….ship, and focus on his accused murderer and former French Legionnaire Louis Gaspare, who escapes the Philippines on a boat, only to discover the vessel is being used as a ferry for a human trafficking ring.

As of yet there are no details on the writer or director for the follow-up.

Plane was directed by Jean-François Richet (Mesrine), and starred Gerard Butler as a pilot forced to land on a war-torn island during a storm and finds himself with no choice but to team-up with with an accused murderer (Mike Colter) being transported on his flight when most of his passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels.

You can check out what we thought of Plane by reading our ★★★ review of the film here, and let us know whether you think news of a sequel is a load of old Ship by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
