Mortal Kombat 2 wraps production as fans await release date

January 22, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Lewis Tan just gave Mortal Kombat fans a sigh of relief as the long-gestating production on the sequel has finally wrapped.

Tan took to his social media accounts this past week to give a glimpse at the Mortal Kombat 2 wrap party, which spills the details that principal photography has completed. After a delay in shooting during last year’s strikes, it was a gruelling process with stops, starts, and international travels, but we can now breathe easy with post-production beginning soon.

Simon McQuoid will helm the new film based on a screenplay by Moon Knight’s Jeremy Slater. Little is known about the film’s plot, but it will look to introduce even more iconic MK characters. With the expanded cast and teases in the first outing, could we actually see the tournament this time?

The cast includes the returning Tan’s Cole, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

New additions include Adeline Rudolph’s Kitana, Tati Gabrielle’s Jade, Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as villainous Shao Kah, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen will play Sindel, and Damon Herriman rounding out the cast as Quan Chi.

Mortal Kombat 2 still does not have a set release date as yet.
