Mortal Kombat’s Lewis Tan on the upcoming film’s gruesome fatalities

July 23, 2020 by EJ Moreno

If you’ve played a Mortal Kombat video game, you know how great it feels to execute one of the game’s infamous fatalities. If it’s Scorpion roasting someone until they are just bones or Sub-Zero ripping out a spine, you know these are the highlights of any match.

Many fans are hoping to see them make an appearance in the upcoming feature film, set to hit theatres sometime in 2021. It seems like they will get their wish as Mortal Kombat actor Lewis Tan spoke to ComicBook.com about what they are doing in shock fans.

“Let me just say this, there were some days on set that I felt sick,” says Tan, who will play Johnny Cage in the film. He continues, “I’m not kidding. They did not…They did not hold back.”

With the promise from producer Todd Garner that the James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat film will focus on practical effects rather than CG, it seems like the gore will be as top-notch as the games.

Simon McQuoid directs the upcoming Mortal Kombat. The film will star Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Lewis Tan as Johnny Cage, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, and Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs.

Mortal Kombat is tentatively set to hit theaters on January 15th 2021.
