Natalie Portman says she’s “open” to more Star Wars

December 7, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Natalie Portman knows that even while promoting a prestige film during awards season, you never turn your back on the franchises that often pay the bills.

Portman returned to the MCU recently for Thor: Love and Thunder, but that’s not it for her. During a recent appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live to discuss her new Netflix film May December, the actress revealed another Disney brand she’d revisit.

Natalie Portman says that another project for Star Wars could work, telling the host, “I’m open to it,” even though “no one has asked” from the studio.

She also looks back at her time in the franchise, dating back to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999:

“It was the first time I worked digitally. I don’t think anyone was shooting that way then. It was my first time working with a green screen. It was a whole new set of skills to pick up and a whole new world to enter.”

In the era of Star Wars revisiting every past character and Bob Iger desperate to bring some prestige back to the brands, Portman returning as Padme Amidala could be a welcomed surprise. She played the Naboo Queen in the three Star Wars prequel films from 1999-2005.

Portman is currently promoting the Netflix film May December, which you can find our interview with the actress and review below…

In May December, “Portman plays TV star Elizabeth, who is researching a new part by ingratiating herself into the lives of Gracie (Moore), whom she’ll be playing onscreen, and her much younger husband, Joe (Charles Melton). As Elizabeth attempts to get closer to the family, the uncomfortable facts of their scandal unfurl, causing difficult, long-dormant emotions to resurface.”

The film is directed by Todd Haynes (Carol) from a script by first-time writer Samy Burch. May December is produced by Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez, Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler, and Portman and Sophie Mas.

May December is now streaming on Netflix.
