NBC’s Xena: Warrior Princess reboot is dead

August 22, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess is officially dead at NBC.

The project parted ways with writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach a few months back and now NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke has said that the proposed reboot of the show is isn’t happening in its current form.

“Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn’t warrant the reboot,” Salke told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’d never say never on that one because it’s such a beloved title, but the current incarnation of it is dead.”

Xena co-creators Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi were on board to oversee the project via Ghost House Pictures, with the reboot looking to cast a new actress in the role made famous by Lucy Lawless.

Grillo-Marxuach revealed that he exited the project in April due to creative differences.

Salke has confirmed that NBC would be open to doing a Xena revival at some point in the future. “I need someone to come in with a point of view about what they want to do.”
