New Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor audio adventure available now from Big Finish Productions

November 3, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has released Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: What Lies Inside?, a new audio drama featuring two brand new adventures for the Eighth Doctor played by Paul McGann.  Accompanied by Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) and Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan) the Doctor will once more face off against his oldest of enemies, before venturing to the Isle of Man for some ghost debusting.

The two new adventures in this Eight Doctor box set are: Paradox of the Daleks by John Dorney and The Dalby Spook by Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle.  In Paradox of the Daleks ( an audio drama of 2 parts) the TARDIS takes the Doctor and his companions to a space station running temporal experiments where he finds the Daleks have taken over, but they are no ordinary Daleks.  The Doctor, Liv and Helen will face danger in every time and place they find themselves but they are determined to find out why the Daleks are here and where they are from.

Paul McGann said: “It’s the real deal working with the Daleks. It’s always a privilege and a pleasure to work with the sworn enemy – it’s like playing in a final. I love it.”

Nicola Walker added: “The Daleks were the creatures of my nightmares as a child growing up. I think we still love them because they represent another life form that’s seemingly a machine but is actually more complicated – it feeds into a lot of primal fears that we have.

In The Dalby Spook, the Doctor, Helen and Liv find themselves on the Isle of White where they meet the famous ghost hunter Harry Price and learn about the strange occurrences taking place at a remote farmhouse.  The Doctor is determined to solve the case before the famous ghost hunter but Liv and Helen are more concerned for the girl at the centre of events, as well as where Gef, the talking mongoose has come from.

“This is such a departure from the last few box sets we’ve done. It’s spaceships, daleks, time travel and all of the things you might expect from a Doctor Who adventure. It’s mind-bogglingly clever” said Hattie Morahan, “The Dalby Spook is very fresh and unexpected. The writing is beautifully colourful and incredibly vivid. Helen has an interesting journey and finds herself very emotionally involved.”

Nicola Walker added, “The Dalby Spook has great ingredients to it. I’m in love with Gef the talking mongoose – he’s just delightful!”

Harry Myers as Gef the Talking Mongoose.

Philip Jackson plays the part of the famous ghost hunter Harry Price.

Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: What Lies Inside? is now available to own as a collector’s edition CD box set also with digital download for just £19.99 or as a digital download only for just £16.99, exclusively from the Big Finish website.
