Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema has come out victorious in a hotly-contested bidding war for Don’t Worry Darling, a psychological thriller set to be directed by Olivia Wilde, who is riding high following her acclaimed feature directorial debut Booksmart.
Scripted by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, with Booksmart’s Katie Silberman set to polish, the film is described as “a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath.”
New Line reportedly fought off competition from 17 other bidders, including Legendary, MGM, Village Roadshow, Blumhouse, FilmNation, Netflix and Apple.
In addition to directing, Wilde will star in the film and produce with Silberman and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. It is the second recent sale for Wilde and Silberman, with Universal picking up a pitch from the duo for an untitled holiday comedy last month.
