Oscar winner Alan Arkin passes away at age 89

June 30, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The world has lost one of its best actors. We’ve learned Alan Arkin has died at the age of 89 in his home in Califonia.

Arkin had quite the career, spanning over seven decades and going from the stage to the big & small screen. He was best known for his dry wit and ability to dive into dramatic roles easily.

He received numerous Academy Award nominations throughout his career, dating back to The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming in 1967, and The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter in 1969. Arkin earned his first Oscar nomination for his first credited feature performance.

He’d later win an Oscar for Supporting Actor in 2007 for his turn in the indie comedy-drama Little Miss Sunshine. Years later, he’d receive another Supporting Actor nomination for Ben Affleck’s Best Picture winner Argo.

Arkin’s sons Adam, Matthew, and Anthony said in a joint statement, “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.”

Recently, Arkin received back-to-back Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his impressive work on the Netflix series The Kominsky Method. His last film credit was a voice acting role in 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Alan Wolf Arkin was born in Brooklyn on March 26, 1934. Arkin is survived by his third wife, Suzanne Newlander Arkin, whom he married in 1999.

Flickering Myth sends our best wishes to Arkin’s family.
