Paul Thomas Anderson has supposedly directed a Radiohead video

April 14, 2016 by William Fanelli

Film auteur Paul Thomas Anderson has been taking, making and then sometimes even dropping from a host of atypical projects since his last feature Inherent Vice. He shot two music videos, Sapokanikan and Divers, for Joanna Newsom, he filmed a highly-secretive music documentary Junun and he was even attached to direct the live-action Pinocchio remake starring Robert Downey Jr., although he has since detached himself from the project. Now, word on the street is the writer-director has filmed a music video for Radiohead.

According to The Playlist, comedian Stefanie Wilder-Taylor revealed — in an episode of her For Crying Out Loud podcast — that her home was used to film a portion of a new Radiohead video. She went on to reveal the director to be none other than P.T. Anderson. Here’s what she had to say:

“Here’s the cool part. Then the next day, [someone from the production] goes, I wanna bring the director by your house… this guy comes in, says ‘Hey, this is the director, Paul’… really normal looking guy. Then I say, ‘Hey, you look kind of familiar… Have we met?’ Do you make anything apart from music videos?’ ”

Anderson proceeded to explain he was the director behind There Will Be Blood, to which Wilder-Taylor replied, “Oh shit!”

The fact that the podcast episode has since been taken down suggests that Wilder-Taylor probably wasn’t supposed to discuss the project. The music video, which obviously hasn’t surfaced on account it’s likely for a single from Radiohead’s forthcoming album, is said to have a theme of “doorways.”

Anderson’s directing a music video for Radiohead shouldn’t be all that shocking as he and the band’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood have become quite close over the years with the latter scoring his last three films, There Will Be Blood, The Master and Inherent Vice. The duo also worked together on the aforementioned Junun.
