Reg E. Cathey’s final role is Luke Cage’s father in season 2 of Marvel’s Netflix series

Yesterday brought the rather sad news that The Wire and House of Cards actor Reg E. Cathey had passed away after losing his battle with cancer. The actor is known to comic book movie fans for his role as Franklin Storm, the father of Sue and Johnny Storm, in 2015’s Fantastic Four, and it seems we have one more Marvel role to look forward to, as Marvel Television has announced that he had completed work on season two of Luke Cage, where he plays Power Man’s father.

“Everyone at Marvel Television is deeply saddened by the loss of Reg E. Cathey,” reads the official statement from Marvel. “It was an honor to work with him and to know him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. In Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2, Reg played James Lucas, Luke’s father. We were lucky enough to experience the magic that was Reg in his final performance.”

Actor Mike Colter also took to Twitter to pay tribute to Cathey:

The second season of Luke Cage will see Mike Colter back in the title role alongside Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), Theo Rossi (Shades), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Thomas Q. Jones (Comanche), Gabrielle Dennis (Tilda Johnson), Mustafa Shakir (John McIver/Bushmaster) and Reg E. Cathey (James Lucas).
