Rob Lowe set for gender-swapped remake of The Bad Seed

December 17, 2017 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Rob Lowe has signed on to direct and star in a remake of the Oscar-nominated 1956 psychological horror The Bad Seed, with Lifetime currently in negotiations to secure the rights.

Described as a “reimagining”, the film – which has been scripted by Barbara Marshall (Wish Upon) will see Lowe playing “a father who seems to have everything under control. But when a terrible tragedy takes place at his daughter Emma’s school, he is forced to question everything he thought he knew about his beloved girl. He slowly begins to question if Emma’s exemplary behavior is just a façade and whether she played a role in the horrific incident. When more strange things begin to happen, he’s faced with keeping a terrible secret to protect Emma, but ultimately must stop her from striking again.”

The original 1956 film saw Nancy Kelly playing the mother and Patty McCormack as the daughter, with both receiving Oscar nominations for their performances. This is the second time that Lifetime has attempted a remake, with Marshall penning a version that centred on a working mother which failed to make it beyond the script stage.
