Ron Livingston replaces Billy Crudup as Henry Allen in The Flash movie

March 25, 2021 by Ricky Church

Just a few days after the news that Billy Crudup is unable to reprise the role of Barry Allen’s imprisoned father in The Flash, Variety reports the film has already found its replacement. Joining the cast of the Warner Bros. and DC Films movie is Ron Livingston (Office Space) who will take over the role of Henry Allen from Crudup.

Crudup starred as Henry Allen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In the film, as well as in the comics and The CW’s Flash series, Henry Allen is wrongly sent to prison for the murder of his wife and Barry’s mother, Nora. Barry knows his father was falsely accused and works as a crime scene analyst in the hopes of one day proving his father’s innocence. Crudup was set to star in The Flash, but a scheduling conflict due to his role in the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show kept him from reprising the role.

Also joining the cast with Livingston is Ian Loh as a young Barry Allen, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) and Rudy Mancuso in undisclosed roles.

While little is known about the plot, it has long been rumoured The Flash will be loosely based on the 2010 story Flashpoint which sees Flash in an alternate timeline where his mother’s death was prevented, but inadvertently changed the DC Universe for worse.

The Flash will see Ezra Miller reprise his role as Barry Allen/The Flash with Kiersey Clemons (Zack Snyder’s Justice League) as Iris West, Ben Affleck as the DCEU Batman, Michael Keaton reprising his Batman and Batman Returns role as the Dark Knight, Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) as Supergirl and Maribel Verdú (Y Tu Mama Tambien) as Nora Allen.

The Flash will be directed by Andy Muschietti (It) for a November 4th, 2022 release. Production is expected to start sometime this spring.
