Rory McCann to replace Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll for Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2

January 11, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Having passed away three months prior to the show’s premiere on Disney+, Ray Stevenson sadly never got to witness the overwhelmingly positive reception to his role as Baylan Skoll in Star Wars: Ahsoka, nor to continue to explore the story of the fallen Jedi Knight.

The season one finale of Ahsoka saw Baylan Skoll set up for a key role in the story moving forward, with Stevenson’s death naturally leaving a big question mark over how Lucasfilm and showrunner Dave Filoni would proceed narratively. And, as revealed by The Insneider, we now have word that Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann, a personal friend of the late Stevenson, is set to follow in his footsteps and take on the role for the second season.

McCann is best known for his role as Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane in HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. He was most recently seen in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, while his other credits include Hot Fuzz, Jumanji: The Next Level, and last year’s Knuckles.

Ahsoka’s season two renewal was announced back in January of last year alongside the Jon Favreau-directed feature film Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano, and it’s expected that the rest of the main cast will be back alongside new addition McCann, although details remain a closely guarded secret at present.

The first season of Star Wars: Ahsoka is streaming now on Disney+ and stars Rosario Dawson as the titular Ahsoka Tano, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, David Tennant as Huyang, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Evan Whitten as Jacen Syndulla, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Carson Teva, Wes Chatham as Captain Enoch, and Ariana Greenblatt as young Ahsoka Tano.
