Rumour: Marvel developing Captain Britain TV series

March 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Every few months or so we get a new rumour sprouting up suggesting that Marvel is developing a TV series based around this character or that character, and generally these rumours turn out to be little more than speculation, based upon the fact that Marvel is no doubt considering many of its virtually endless roster of superheroes for adaptations.

With that being said, we now have word on another potential series, with poster artist Ciara McAvoy taking to Twitter today to suggest that development is underway on a Captain Britain series. McAvoy posted the following image, with the caption “Who will be playing Brian Braddock in the upcoming tv series?”…

Pressed for more information, McAvoy stated that “I am being paid to do the promo poster so yes I’d say this is really happening. I can’t reveal anything yet but hopefully I’ll be able to soon. Waiting for the go ahead from the co-producer. It is his own don’t worry. I’m painting The Lady Of The Lake until they have an actor confirmed for Captain Britain. It might take a while before the announcement (either early 2017 or late 2016) They’re making a sizzle reel and it’s gonna be awesome.”

Captain Britain was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe and made his debut in 1976 in Captain Britain Weekly #1, published by Marvel UK. His alter-ego is Brian Braddock, who after being involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident, is restored to health by Merlyn and his daughter Roma and granted superhuman powers to battle evil as Captain Britain. He went on to become a founding member of the superhero team Excalibur, as well as serving in the Avengers.

UPDATE: More details on the project have emerged, with indie producer Chris Lark revealing that he’s working on a highlight reel that he plans to pitch to Marvel in 2017. So, the project isn’t in development at Marvel itself, but very well could be should the highlight reel impress (assuming Marvel even takes a look at it, of course).
