Marvel came in for a little criticism last week with the news that Game of Thrones star Finn Jones had been cast as Danny Rand in Iron Fist, with some fans feeling that the studio missed an opportunity to further diversify the MCU by casting an Asian actor in the title role.
Well, according to The Hashtag Show (who were the first to break the news of Jones’ casting), Iron Fist will introduce an Asian character, with their latest report suggesting that Shang-Chi will feature in the Netflix series, and that Marvel are “exclusively auditioning males of Asian descent” for the role of the Master of Kung-Fu.
Created by Steve Engleheart and Jim Starlin, Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 in 1973 before taking over the title, which was renamed to The Hands of Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu, two issues later.
Now, this is a rumour at this point, but as mentioned, The Hashtag Show were on the money with their casting news for Iron Fist…
