Ryan Reynolds teases Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3

September 28, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Will we see Deadpool 3 finally released by Disney and the MCU? More importantly, can we see Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine? If the latest tease is anything to go by, this will be quite the Marvel moment.

In a new teaser video, Ryan Reynolds casually broke the internet by announcing that Hugh Jackman is gearing up for a Wolverine return. This will mark the first time Reynolds and Jackman have shared the Marvel screen since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman marked his official retirement in the Wolverine role during Logan, the beloved film that marked the end of an era for that era of X-Men. In the movie, we saw the tragic passing of Logan and Patrick Stewart’s Xavier. Since Stewart returned in this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Jackman return feels slightly less shocking in the grand scheme of things.

The news and teaser video from Reynolds is the first significant update for the third Deadpool film in a while. The franchise’s future was unclear in the wake of Disney acquiring Fox, where the previous two movies had been made. Before this massive move from Reynolds and company, only a few details were dropped.

Before this significant announcement, the last we knew about Deadpool 3 was Marvel Studios had hired sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to write the film and Shawn Levy (Free Guy) was on board to direct.

Before entering the MCU, Deadpool proved to be a box-office juggernaut. In 2016, Deadpool scored a $782 million worldwide gross, and the sequel in 2018 surpassed even that, pulling in $785 million worldwide. With the inclusion of the iconic Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, we could see this film near the billion-dollar mark with pure fan hype alone.
