Sam Raimi returning to horror to direct shipwreck thriller Send Help

July 10, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Evil Dead director Sam Raimi is set to return to his horror roots to produce and direct Send Help.

Described in Deadline’s report as a horror-thriller, sources reveal that Send Help is a two-hander horror thriller set on an island, with the intention of being a cross between Stephen King’s Misery and Tom Hanks’ shipwreck classic Castaway. The film will be based on an original script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Baywatch, Friday the 13th).

Send Help will be Raimi’s first foray into horror since 2009’s Drag Me to Hell, since which he has dabbled in big-budget extravaganzas such as 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful and 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as producing 2023’s Evil Dead Rise and Boy Kills World.

At this early stage there are no further details on plot, but the 20th Century Studios film is set for a theatrical release.
