Scoob! sequel in development

June 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang made their grand return to the big screen last year with the CG-animated Scoob! – or at least they would have done so, had the global pandemic not limited theatrical screenings to a handful of territories last summer.

As it turned out, the film was one of the first major releases to go straight-to-digital as cinemas around the globe shut their doors. Nevertheless, the feature film topped digital rentals in the U.S. for four weekends in a row and finishing up as the third-most popular PVOD release during lockdown, and so it will come as little surprise to hear that a sequel is in early development.

“We are kicking the tyres on a follow-up to Scoob!” director Tony Cervone told Comic Book Movie. “It hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s something we’re all excited about. The whole creative team that made the first movie is still around and back and working on something new. It was neat to create this Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, and it’s exciting to return to it.”

Are you excited about this return to the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe? What did you make of the first Scoob!? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

“SCOOB!” reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.

Scoob! features a voice cast that includes Zac Efron (Fred), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne), Gina Rodriguez (Velma), Will Forte (Shaggy) and Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo) lead the voice cast alongside Tracy Morgan (Captain Caveman), Kiersey Clemons (Dee Dee Skyes), Mark Wahlberg (Blue Falcon), Jason Isaacs (Dick Dastardly), Ken Jeong (Dynomutt), Iain Armitage (Young Shaggy), Mckenna Grace (Young Daphne), Pierce Gagnon (Young Fred) and Ariana Greenblatt (Young Velma).
