SDCC: The Big Bang Theory to go “ghostbusting”, creators silent on season 8 cliffhangers

Television’s biggest comedy, The Big Bang Theory, returned to Comic-Con today with another hilarious panel, which had surprise guest Mayim Bialik (Amy) and Kunal Nayyar (Raj) in attendance, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Set to start its ninth season in the fall, the show ended Season 8 with a few big cliffhangers, including Amy and Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) break-up and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) heading off to Las Vegas to get married. Of course, many of the fans at the panel has their questions ready for creator Chuck Lorre and series showrunner Steven Molaro. And while the panel were noticeable mum on many things, they did say that many of the question marks left by the final episode of last season would be settled in episode 1 of the new season.

In addition, the show is about to go ghostbusting, with Chuck Lorre revealing that there’s been a dispute over using a clip from 1984’s Ghostbusters due to a rights issue. Lorre stepped in, speaking to Joel Murray, brother of Bill, to see if they could find a solution, only for Bill to step in and called the studio executives himself to ask why they were “being so mean to The Big Bang Theory“. Subsequently, the show now has the rights to anything they want from the films.

The fun-filled panel was capped off by Nayyar and Bialik taking over moderating duties and reading a piece of fan-fiction called Fifty Shades of Brown. The house came down when one of them said the punchline: “She knew who she needed to be with: the sexiest people of all — television sitcom writers.”

The Big Bang Theory, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, Melissa Rauch and Kevin Sussman, returns for its ninth season on September 21st.
