Shawn Levy says his Star Wars film will be a standalone experience

August 10, 2024 by EJ Moreno

With many projects on his plate, director Shawn Levy can finally focus on his planned Star Wars movie.

After wrapping Stranger Things and launching a new billion-dollar Marvel movie with Deadpool & Wolverine, Levy is going to that galaxy far, far away, and has some significant plans for this brand.

Firstly, Levy wants to make a Star Wars film accessible to any fan, no matter how much the fandom wants the same movies they had growing up over and over again.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy discussed wanting his Star Wars outing to be free of additional baggage.

The filmmaker explains, “There’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline. I don’t want to do a Star Wars film that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”

This project could soon be leaving the development stage as production is starting to pick up steam. Recently, Jonathan Tropper came on board to pen the script for Levy’s film. The pair have previously worked on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.
