Shooter renewed for second season

December 20, 2016 by Ricky Church

The Shooter TV series has just been renewed for a second season on USA Network. The series is an adaptation of Stephen Hunter’s novel Point Impact and the 2007 Mark Wahlberg film Shooter, and stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, a former Marine sniper framed for an assassination attempt on the President’s life.

Shooter was supposed to air in the summer, but was delayed to the late fall due to the real-life shootings of Dallas police officers. Since its premiere it has done very well on USA thanks to its WWE Smackdown lead-in, making USA Network the #1 ad-supported network on Tuesday nights.

Chris McCumber, president of USA Network’s parent company NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, made a statement with the news: “John Hlavin and the team behind Shooter have delivered a compelling action thriller that consistently engages a strong and loyal audience. We look forward to partnering once again with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions as we follow Bob Lee into his next chapter.”

The series also stars Spartacus‘ Cynthia Addia-Robinson as an FBI agent investigating Swagger, and Omar Epps as as Secret Service agent and Swagger’s former commanding officer. It airs Tuesday nights at 10 PM.
