Smallville’s Tom Welling “willing” to guest star on The CW’s The Flash

September 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although Tom Welling is gearing up to make his return to the DC universe (kind of) with a guest role in the Vertigo adaptation Lucifer, the actor has kept his distance from superhero roles following his stint as Clark Kent in the Superman prequel series Smallville.

Back in August, Welling suggested that he’d been approached to portray Superman in season two of Supergirl (a role ultimately filled by Tyler Hoechlin), only to turn the opportunity down. However, speaking to Nuke the Fridge, Welling has revealed that he’s keen to make an appearance in another of The CW’s DC shows.

“I am willing to go on The Flash and I have a few ideas on how it can happen if the network asks me,” said Welling. “In fact, I think I can make it happen.”

It’s not clear from those comments whether Welling is suggesting that he’d be keen to don the tights as Superman – although seeing as Hoechlin’s Clark Kent exists in a different universe to Grant Gustin’s Flash, it would certainly be possible should the producers decide to go down that route.
