South Park renewed for three more seasons by Comedy Central

September 14, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Comedy Central has announced that it has renewed South Park for three additional seasons of ten episodes apiece, which will extend the animated show’s record as the longest-running prime-time scripted cable series to at least 26 seasons.

“Apparently, our efforts to get our own show canceled have fallen short,” said South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. “Luckily, we love Comedy Central and Kent and our staff so we are looking forward to new cancellation opportunities in the next few years.”

South Park is about to kick off its 23rd season this month, which will take it past the 300-episode mark. And despite its age, the animated series remains a hit for Comedy Central, having delivered the higest-ratings for a cable comedy in the 18-49 demo for six years in a row.

Meanwhile, speaking to THR, the creatoes have discussed South Park’s future beyond this three-season renewal, with Parker stating that: “I don’t think we have ever had an ‘OK, let’s sit down and decide if we are going to keep going'” and Stone adding: “I am 48. Trey turns 50 this year. So I will say that I don’t think we will be doing this show when we’re 60.”
