Star Wars: Andor sets season 2 directors

November 7, 2022 by Gary Collinson

As Star Wars: Andor heads into the final straight of its first season, showrunner Tony Gilroy is currently hard at work prepping the second and final season of Lucasfilm’s acclaimed Disney+ series.

Speaking to Collider, Gilroy has revealed that Andor will be undergoing a director shake-up for its second batch of twelve episodes, with Ariel Kleiman (Yellowjackets), Janus Metz (All the Old Knives) and Alonso Ruizpalacios (Narcos: Mexico) joining the series.

Kleiman, Metz and Ruizpalacios take over from season one directors Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron, and as with the first season, the plan is for each of the directors to tackle a three-episode block, with Kleiman then returning for the final three-episode arc.

Initially planned as a five-season show with each season covering a year in the lead up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the decision was made to condense Andor’s second season, with each three-episode block set to represent a year. Filming on season two is set to get underway this month ahead of an expected 2024 Disney+ premiere.

The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Star Wars: Andor stars Diego Luna, who reprises his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor alongside Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrara, as well as Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Joplin Sibtain, James McArdle, Rupert Vansittart, Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw, Alex Ferns, Gary Beadle, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, Kathryn Hunter, Alastair Mackenzie, Anton Lesser, Alex Lawther, Sule Rimi, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, Stanley Townsend, Ben Miles, Andy Serkis, Duncan Pow.

Star Wars: Andor airs on Disney+ with new episodes every Wednesday.
