Star Wars: The Acolyte live-action series will take place during The High Republic era

December 11, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Lucasfilm is set to explore a new era of the galaxy far, far away this coming year with Star Wars: The High Republic, a multi-media publishing initiative set between 300 and 100 years prior to the events of the Original Star Wars Trilogy.

Initially, it was reported that The High Republic would not feature any movies or TV shows, but it seems those plans have changed as during yesterday’s Disney Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the previously announced live-action TV series from Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland will be taking place during this era.

Titled Star Wars: The Acolyte, the female-fronted series is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” Further details are being kept under wraps at present.

The Acolyte was one of many big Star Wars announcements from Lucasfilm yesterday, along with a December 2021 premiere date for The Mandalorian season 3, the spinoff shows Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic from Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, a teaser for Star Wars: Andor, Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader return for Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi, a Star Wars: Lando limited TV series, and the new movie Star Wars: Rogue Squadron from Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins.
