The director of Netflix’s Polar teases sequel possibilities

January 30, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Jonas Åkerlund, the director of Netflix’s original film Polar, has teased potential sequel possibilities should they get the green light.

The latest original film to make its way to Netflix viewers around the world is Jonas Åkerlund’s Polar, an adaptation of a graphic novel from author Víctor Santos.

The film stars Mads Mikkelsen as a retired hitman, who is forced to protect himself by any means necessary when his old employer arranges his assassination. While we don’t know if there will be a sequel for the film, Åkerlund has spoken to Screen Rant about what future films could entail:

“It’s supposed to be based on the first book, but we kind of borrowed a little bit from the second and the third book as well. And we also added some stuff that aren’t even in the book. So, we had the freedom of working with these characters as we wanted – and, yeah, the Polar story has way more to give. He [Silva] actually wrote five books, and there’s a lot more stories in there; and the characters are great, so why not?”

Would you be interested in seeing a sequel to Polar? Let us know in the comments below, as well as what you thought of the movie itself.

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla (Mikkelsen), aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

Polar stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland).
