The Goonies inspired TV show Our Time is heading to Disney+

December 16, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

The Goonies remains one of the few cherished 80s kids films not to receive the remake or reboot treatment, despite its DNA being evident in everything from Super 8 to Stranger Things, but now a TV pilot passed on by Fox has found a new home and is being redeveloped for Disney+.

According to Variety the pilot, which was created by The Bold Type‘s Sarah Watson, is being reworked with Disney+, alongside The Donner Company and Amblin, which were behind the original.

Now titled Our Time, which refers to Mikey’s impassioned speech to his fellow Goonies during Richard Donner’s beloved 1985 original, the pilot focused on Stella Cooper, who returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach after failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret. She finds inspiration, hope, and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of the student’s favorite movies, The Goonies.

Superbad and Adventureland‘s Greg Mottola was originally onboard to direct, but there’s no word on whether he’s still attached to the project.

Let us know whether you think this is a fitting legacy for Mikey and the gang, or whether you’d rather see a straight-up sequel to The Goonies by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
