The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy being developed as a TV series for Hulu

July 25, 2019 by Ricky Church

Douglas Adams’ seminal sci-fi comedy novel series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is getting another adaptation, this time over at Hulu. Deadline reports the series is being developed by Carlton Cuse (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman).

The series will be produced by ABC Signature, the streaming division of ABC Studios where Cuse and his production company, Genre Arts, have a deal. Fuchs will write the script for the pilot.

Hitchhiker’s Guide first began as a British comedy radio series before Adams turned it into a series of novels. The series follows bumbling Englishman Arthur Dent as he traverses the galaxy after the destruction of Earth from the Vogons, a race of bureaucratic aliens. His companions along his journey include Ford Prefect, Trillian, President of the Galazy Zaphoid Beeblebrox and the manic depressive robot Marvin.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was previously turned into a miniseries for the BBC in 1981 and a feature film in 2005. The film starred Martin Freeman as Arthur, Mos Def as Ford, Zooey Deschanel as Trillian, Sam Rockwell as Zaphoid, and Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin with Warwick Davis inside the suit.
