The Russo brothers plan to retitle both Avengers: Infinity War films

May 4, 2016 by James Garcia

Now that Captain America: Civil War has been released (read our review here) and is set to be another massive success for Marvel Studios, directors Anthony and Joe Russo can turn their attention to their next major Marvel team-up movies: Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2, which are due to arrive in 2018 and 2019. Only, when they do finally get here, they’ll be called something different.

While speaking to Uproxx, the directing duo were asked how they would divide Infinity War into two parts, which led to them revealing that, despite the “Part 1” and “Part 2” distinctions, they are in fact very different films, not one big movie. As such, they’ll be retitled to reflect that. Here’s what they said about it:

“The movies are two very different movies. It is misleading. The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But yes, we will change it. And yes, that is a scoop: We will retitle them.”

SEE ALSO: The Russo Brothers aren’t confident they’ll fit Daredevil or the Defenders into Avengers: Infinity War

So, if you thought there would be some Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Kill Bill, or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-esque splitting of a five hour movie, think again. As it turns out, it’s not just simple semantics. The Infinity War films are, in fact, Avengers 3 and Avengers 4, not Avengers 3 – Part 1 and Avengers 3 – Part 2.

We may not know any concrete details about these two films yet (other than their focus on Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, of course), but what do you think they’ll end up calling these movies? Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet and Avengers: Infinity War, perhaps? Or something a bit more clever? Give us your suggestions in the comments below!

Whatever they end up being called in the end, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 will arrive two years from today, on May 4, 2018, while Part 2 is slated for one year after that, on May 3, 2019.
