The Witcher has enough material for 20 years says showrunner

November 8, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner for Netflix’s The Witcher series, says that the show has enough material to last 20 years.

Netflix is certainly hoping that The Witcher will be their Game of Thrones, aiming to produce a high quality and must-watch fantasy viewing experience. This week we have gotten an insight into how long the show could last if audiences take to it.

Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner for the series, has already revealed that seven seasons have been planned but now she has gone further and teased just how much material they have at their disposal. Responding to a fan on Twitter when asking about a storyline missing from season 1, she said:

“It was reported yesterday that I had seven seasons mapped out. I said in another panel that the show could run for 20 years, there’s so much material. Keep the faith!”

If fans like The Witcher, it looks like it could stick around for quite some time, and if there is plenty of material and plans already in place, hopefully, the quality will be able to keep up with the quantity.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher is set to be released later this year and stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Other cast members include Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, Emma Appleton, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musiał, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffer.
