The Witcher showrunner discusses how violent the show will be

October 24, 2019 by Liam Waddington

In an interview with Italian website Corriere, Netflix’s The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich explained that the show is not going to shy away from the adult themes and kids should not tune into the show upon its release.

“Very brutal… we are not shy about the adult themes present in the original material,” said Hissrich while speaking to the aforementioned outlet about the show’s violence and mature content. “The novels contemplate sexism, racism, and war with a lot of politics. Let’s say five-year-olds shouldn’t watch it.”

Hissrich explaining how the show will lean into the adult themes will be a comforting confirmation for fans of the best-selling books and video games alike as both forms of media never shy away from the mature content.

Are you looking forward to Netflix’s The Witcher? Are you glad the show will be all in for the mature themes we know this series is known for? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher is set to be released later this year 2019 and also stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Other cast members include Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, Emma Appleton, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musiał, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffer.
