Titans casts Joshua Orpin as Superboy for season 2

February 27, 2019 by Ricky Church

DC’s Universe’s Titans has found its Teen of Steel for its upcoming second season. The series has cast Joshua Orpin (The Black Mysteries: Ghost Stories) as Conner Kent, better known as Superboy, and he is set to play a key role in the season.

Titans‘ character description for Superboy reads “Superboy, aka Conner Kent, is the angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for.”

While Superboy has existed since the mid-1940s as a teenage Clark Kent living in Smallville, this iteration of the character will be based upon the one created by writer Karl Kessell and artist Tom Grummett during the Reign of the Supermen storyline after The Death of Superman. He was a teenage clone of Superman created by Project Cadmus using the DNA of Superman and Lex Luthor who later adopted the identity of Conner Kent.

Since his creation, he’s been a member and leader of the Teen Titans and has been notably featured in the Young Justice animated series and most recently in the Reign of the Superman animated adaptation. One the live-action aside, Lucas Grabeel previously guest starred as Conner in the final season of Smallville.

Titans follows the superhero team led by Batman’s former sidekick, Robin (Brenton Thwaites) and featuring Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft) and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter). Season 1 is available on the DC Universe app in the U.S. and Netflix globally.
