Tom Hardy is Al Capone in first trailer for Josh Trank’s crime drama

April 16, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Filmmaker Josh Trank has taken to his Twitter account to drop some major news about his upcoming Al Capone movie starring Tom Hardy in the titular role as the notorious mob boss. The crime drama, once called Fonzo, is now titled Capone and is set for a streaming debut this May.

This biographical drama will take place ten years into Capone’s prison sentence, where the 47-year-old gangster begins to suffer from dementia causing him to become haunted by his violent past.

The film marks the cinematic return of its star Tom Hardy, last seen in 2018’s Venom, and well as being Josh Trank’s first directorial effort since 2015’s Fantastic Four.  Joining Hardy in the cast of the film are Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, and Dunkirk’s Jack Lowden.

Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present. Harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life. As he spends his final year surrounded by family with the FBI lying in wait, this ailing patriarch struggles to place the memory of the location of millions of dollars he hid away on his property.

Capone will make home premiere VOD release on May 12th with an on-demand 48-hour rental.
