Tom Ripley TV series in development from Steven Zaillian

March 26, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List) is set to write and direct a TV series based upon Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley book series.

According to the website, Zaillian will draw upon all five of Highsmith’s novels – The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley Under Ground, Ripley’s Game, The Boy Who Followed Ripley and Ripley Under Water – to explore the character’s progression from con artist to serial killer.

Endemol Shine is producing the as-yet-untitled drama package, which is being shopped around to interested outlets for a straight-to-series order.

Highsmith’s novels have been adapted for the big screen on numerous occasions, with actors such as Matt Damon, John Malkovich, Dennis Hopper and Barry Pepper all taking on the role of Tom Ripley.
