Uncharted voice actor Nolan North hopes the film isn’t an exact adaptation

July 8, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Nolan North, the voice actor behind Nathan Drake, hopes the Uncharted film isn’t an exact adaptation of PlayStation’s video game series.

Video game movies don’t exactly have the best track record, so it’s not surprising that there is a little trepidation around the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland. Movies and video games are very different, of course, and Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North thinks this is where the difficulty lies.

Speaking to Screen Junkies, the veteran voice actor even says the film shouldn’t be an exact adaptation of the game if it wants to work: “If they were going to do a one to one type thing – which again, I don’t think is a very good idea for video games, because Uncharted is a movie and you’re the star of that game. You’re the star of that movie because you’re Nathan Drake, not me. It’s my voice, it’s my movements, but you’re Nathan Drake. You make the decisions to jump, run, fall off a cliff – like I do – whatever.”

It is certainly true that playing a video game and watching a movie are two totally different experiences and this dichotomy impacts the characters themselves. It will be interesting to see how video game accurate Uncharted turns out to be.

Uncharted is set to be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland: Double Tap) with a cast that includes Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg (Mile 22) as Sully as well as Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Sophia Ali (Truth or Dare), and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) in undisclosed roles.
