Warner Bros. delays Salem’s Lot to 2023

July 12, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

With marketing for Warner Bros. adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot as elusive as the Jerusalem vampires, it comes as little surprise to learn that the studio have delayed its release until 2023.

According to Deadline the Gary Dauberman-directed horror has been bumped from September 9th to April 3rd, 2023. It’s reportedly due to Covid-related delays in post-production, and the fact the the film had a few days of additional photography at the start of June.

This James Wan produced adaptation of Salem’s Lot features Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale, Top Gun: Maverick) as Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his home town of Jerusalem’s Lot, only to find it under threat from a cabal of vampires.

Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) will play the villainous Richard Straker, Makenzie Leigh (The Assistant) is love-interest Susan Norton, Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit) stars as former high school teacher Matthew Burke, alongside Spencer Treat Clark (Glass) as gravedigger Mike Ryerson, and Alfre Woodard (Clemency) as Dr. Cody.

When it’s eventually released it will be the first time the 1975 horror novel has made it to the big-screen, with the previous adaptations, including the really-rather-brilliant Tobe Hooper-directed 1979 adaptation being made for television.
