Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof would “consider” another season

November 24, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Having announced in the run up to its premiere that his Watchmen series would consist of one self-contained season, writer and executive producer Damon Lindelof has now revealed that he is open to the possibility another run, should the right story come along.

“I think that everyone wants to see how season one plays out,” said Lindelof in an interview with LadBible. “It was designed to be a complete story much in the vein of shows like Fargo or True Detective, with an understanding that there are many Watchmen stories to tell, but there’s not a big cliffhanger in the final episode.”

“We’re all planning on taking a breath over the holidays and seeing where to go from there,” he continued. “If the idea is right, and if there is a compelling reason to do it, then I’d consider it. I haven’t had that idea yet. The other thing about Watchmen is that it doesn’t belong to me. Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins created this thing, I had the opportunity to be its steward for a couple of years. There is going to be more Watchmen, independently of whether I do it. It should be done by someone who really deeply cares about it and has a reason to.”

Watchmen would certainly lend itself to an anthology format in the vein of Fargo or True Detective, perhaps with certain characters such as Jeremy Irons’ Adrian Veidt or Jean Smart’s Laurie Blake making recurring appearances throughout? And of course there’s also the possibility of visiting different time periods in the Watchmen universe. What are your thoughts? Would you like to see more Watchmen from Lindelof and/or HBO? Watchmen stars Regina King (The Leftovers), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Don Johnson (Miami Vice), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman), Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Andrew Howard (Truth or Dare), Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Frances Fisher (Titanic), Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous), Sara Vickers (Endeavour), Dylan Schombing (Sharp Objects), James Wolk (Tell Me a Story), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries), Jean Smart (Legion), Hong Chau (Downsizing) and Dustin Ingram (Sun Records).
