Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins on whether she’d like to make a Star Wars film

August 24, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It’s fair to say that after the critical and financial success of Wonder Woman, director Patty Jenkins must have her pick of projects. A few months ago she expressed interest in directing a Superman film, and alongside prepping for Wonder Woman 2, Jenkins has now weighed in on another big franchise: Star Wars.

Speaking to Screen Rant, the director revealed whether or not she would be interested in adding to the ever-expanding Star Wars universe: “It would depend on a project, y’know. I only want to make movies I understand and feel like I could do a good job at. There’s no world that I – I’m not that kind of filmmaker, I think it’s film by film [for me].”

While certainly not a direct answer, it is an admirable one. Many directors would leap at the opportunity to work on such a big franchise. For Jenkins to potentially turn the gig down because she felt it was the wrong fit speaks volumes about her professionalism. Who knows? Perhaps she would be the wrong fit for a film of that scope. It’s good that she carefully considers her projects; it will result in better films overall.

If Wonder Woman is anything to go by, it seems like her vetting process works. The movie has surpassed $800 million worldwide, and is now the highest-grossing superhero origin film domestically.
