Zack Snyder says he’s open to continuing his DCEU at Netflix, and it could actually happen…?

December 13, 2023 by EJ Moreno

It wouldn’t have seemed impossible if you had told us two years ago that the DCEU could exist outside of Warner. But nowadays, we are in a strange new world.

From loaning their catalog to second-tier streamers to removing Watchmen from Max, Warner Bros. Discovery is in a weird state regarding DC-related projects. Even Netflix recently saw an influx of DC Extended Universe projects uploaded to their United States site, which brings us to today’s story.

As Zack Snyder awaits the release of Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, he’s promoting the project and stopping by for interviews with Cultura Ocio. Speaking to the outlet, the topic of getting to work with DC came up, and Snyder was specifically asked what it would take for him to helm another DCEU movie.

The filmmaker says, “If Netflix had the rights to the characters from my DC universe, of course, I would, absolutely.”

It’s been long rumored since Snyder moved over to Netflix for projects like Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon that he could bring over his DC stories. It didn’t seem possible, but as WBD seemingly wants to throw the rights to DC projects to anyone willing to pay, if they aren’t cancelling movies outright, the future could be bright for the SnyderVerse.

Some sources note that putting out millions of dollars for multiple DCEU movie characters could be a financial risk for Netflix, but let’s see if Rebel Moon can drive the passionate Snyder fans to prove them wrong.

After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) – leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire will arrive in theatres for one week beginning December 15th and streams on Netflix December 21st, 2023. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will be released on April 19th, 2024.
