Zack Snyder would have cast Carla Gugino as Catwoman in the DC Extended Universe

November 14, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

While he never got to fully flesh out his plans for the DC Extended Universe, Zack Snyder has revealed that his Watchmen and Sucker Punch star Carla Gugino would have been his choice for the role of Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, if he’d had the opportunity to bring the character into the DCEU.

“Probably I would say Carla’s Catwoman [is perfect],” Snyder told The Nerd Queens. “You would have to say, there’s a flashback to ten years ago, where [she and Batman] were a thing. And then he had to arrest her, I don’t know what happened, or he had to let her go, and it tweaked him. And now, who knows what she’s doing now, she’s running some sort of international antiquities or something, and he needs to retire, and they find each other. Yeah, I do think Carla is – yeah, she is good.”

As it happens, Gugino has already featured briefly in the DC Extended Universe, with the actress voicing Jor-El’s service robot Kelor in Man of Steel and the Fortress of Solitude computer in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Following the interview, Snyder went on to share the following to his Vero account, prompting speculation that Gugino could perhaps make an appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which has just undergone a round of reshoots with the likes of Ben Affleck (Batman) and Jared Leto (The Joker) confirmed to have been involved:

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
